What would make deals.by better - PT 5 Tracking

Ick. Tracking? Nasty. That’s what the TSA, the NSA, the Dept. of Homeland Security, the CIA and a litany of other acronyms do. Ick. What are you thinking? Good question.

We have a similar visceral response to the term. Yet, in certain instances the team has loved our experiments with tracking the data in our lives. Some of us do runs and calories and hours of sleep, etc. Others of us meticulously track every minute of our day and what we were doing and chart it so we can make better choices with our time. We think you’re going to love the tracking in deals.by. Think of it as a thumbs up counter.

As you add deals, deals.by will track the interactions others have with them. It’s really cool. You’ll get a sense of how many other people use your deal(s) and which of them are doing better than others.

Our guess is that this “tracking” will be similarly encouraging for you as it is for our alpha users and ourselves. We’re really digging the rush of finding the best deals and then trying to see if and how many people we can get to save money along with us. Exciting.

What would make deals.by better - PT 4 Popular

It’s one thing to see deals you like. Many of us are hunters. We’re out there hunting. Many of us want to see what the hunters are finding nearby and what the bulk of us are finding interesting.

Based on activity we’ll now have a quick and slick view into the deals most trafficked near your physical location. Our demo is impressing us. We’re not sure if that’s cool or not but we’re excited to share with you. As more and more folks like yourself use deals.by in your area the better the popular rankings for all. Wahoo.

What would make deals.by better - PT 3 Daily

Daily deals are nifty. Often they provide big chunks of cash savings. Daily deals are a pain. If you’re on more than one of these services… you get drilled with email.

We’ve build a connection to many daily deals sites and we’ll pull them to our daily tab on the bottom of our interface. This way you’ll be able to easily get at many different daily deals without tons of email and with a quick and easy way to locate the deal in your city and share it. Nifty-er.

What would make deals.by better - PT 2 Sharing

Our last versions had sharing. It was sorta cool and used, sometimes. Who wants sorta? Bummer.

In the future, unlike in the past, you’ll be able to share the things you think are most interesting that you find in real life. Cool! That’s way better than only being able to share the stuff our servers have.

Also, our sharing functions will be re-worked for ease of use and connection to various sharing channels. Sweet.

What would make deals.by better - PT1 Adding

We have a fantastic set of deals. We have printed coupons. We have a few circulars. We have daily deals. We have a few digital deals. Our best sense is that we have a very respectable set of deals.

Problem, it’s a big country. We noticed that no matter how many deals we had it always seems like there are not enough even in densely populated areas. We’ve messed with new views, new auto dynamic map zooms, new category options and on a whole… it’s just not enough to meet the demands of users. Lots of folks would go looking for deals and don’t find ones they wanted or very few in their area. On the whole it’s not a wonderful nor delightful experience to dig through an encyclopedia either.

Problem, we don’t know what you really care about. We can guess but we don’t know. One possible solution along the way was to filter deals in a really smart way so that only the deals you liked would get shown. We’ve noticed that our systems nor the ones we have the hankering to build have a high likely hood to do a very good job at solving this even if we put a ton of effort into it at this point.

Problem, we empower sharing but only of the things already in the system. We know our users want to help their friends save based on our interviews and audits. Our trouble is that finding the deals in deals.by that are worth sharing is not nearly as easy as simply living with a consciousness most of us do as a deals hunters. The best deals show up in real life. What’s needed is another way to put deals in the system.

Solution, Add deal. Our next release will include the ability for you to add deals. It’ll be low friction and easy. If you’re a business, go ahead and add a deal. If you’re a lover of deals, go ahead and add ‘em. If you just happen across something interesting and worth sharing, add away.

We’re very excited for the virtual treasure hunt to ensue. You’ll be able to not only hunt for deals and get them but with ease you’ll add and share with your friends and with the deals.by network. Solid.

Add and share the deals you find. Save your friends cash.

Learn along the way

We’ve been following the data since our last launch and it’s been fantastic to see a steady climb of folks like yourself eager for deals finding and using deals.by. Welcome again. We’re happy to serve you.

Our insight, after looking at the data, is that we’ve noticed a cap to our potential. It was one thing to get deals of many types and from various different places into one interface. It was a technical feat we’re quite happy we were able to find ways pull off elegantly given the few nights and weekends we could carve out to work on it. However, we’ve noticed it’s a whole separate thing to build something users are reminded to use and want to use on a regular basis.

Put shortly, we’ve been wondering what a likely successful home screen strategy might be. In other words, what about our app will be found valuable enough people like yourself that you’ll not only want to have this on your home screen but also remind yourself to use it regularly.

Again, we’re excited to have served you. We’re eager to put our learning to the test with our next release and we’re stoked you and folks like you continue to use deals.by. Here’s to learning actualized. Cheers.

Add and share the deals you find. Save your friends cash. Let’s see if you like the new approach.

Everyone seems to be launching the next Groupon, and you appear to be capitalizing on that. Tell us more about how Locate My Deal works.

I recently counted 29 daily deal sites with a presence in the Twin Cities. As much as I love getting a deal, I don’t want to sift through 29 e-mails every morning.

Daily deals are getting a lot of attention because the deals are substantial—often 50 percent or more off. But they represent a rather limited subset of all of the deals available to consumers. Numerous restaurants offer $10 off a $30 purchase, for example, and don’t require purchasing the deal on a specific day in advance.

Our goal is simple: We want to provide the one place for consumers to get access to all local deals. We currently provide that access through an iPhone app, Web site, and mobile Web site. And an Android app is coming soon. So far, we’ve gathered a few hundred thousand deals in over 15,000 cities. And we make those all readily available to consumers—tied to a specific location—so you can find something nearby and use it immediately.
